EN125_Lagoa Roundabout_2AHETA – Association of Hotels and Touristic Enterprises of the Algarve formally asked the Government for the «temporary and immediate suspension of the EN125's rehabilitation works».

In a statement, the association explains that "regardless of the legal issues, which cannot and should not be ignored, of which the Court of Auditors' visa is a good example, AHETA bases its claim on a set of gross errors that have been generating a growing wave of discontent, protests and indignation, both among the resident populations and among national and foreign tourists seeking the region».

For AHETA, «the fact that the Algarve receives, annually, more than 5,5 million tourists and national and foreign visitors, of which more than 4 million between the months of May and October, justifies the claim».

The hoteliers' association invokes, "among other aspects, the need for the works to be carried out during periods of less traffic, that is, between the months of November and March, in order to reduce the losses resulting from the inconveniences caused by the delay in the work".

On the other hand, for AHETA, «the works cannot continue to take place, simultaneously, between 8:00 am and 18:00 pm in several sections, forcing the traffic to circulate alternately, generating huge queues in both directions, only to be interrupted between 19:8. hours and XNUMX am the following day, when movement is much lower».

The lack of planning that AHETA considers to exist «is still visible in the reduction of the road within urban areas, with central separators being created when crossing towns, which prevents the access of emergency vehicles in the event of an accident, in addition to making it more difficult the movement, in particular of goods and passenger vehicles'.

Also "the construction of roundabouts in places where there are no intersections and therefore in the middle of nowhere, as opposed to intersections where they would be necessary, as well as the lack of public transport bays", are among the reasons given by AHETA to justify its request to the Government.
