Passos Coelho considers David Santos' dismissal a «political sanitation»

Pedro Passos Coelho, president of the PSD and former prime minister, considered the resignation of the presidents of the Commissions of […] a "total scandal".

Pedro Passos Coelhonuno costa_3Pedro Passos Coelho, president of the PSD and former prime minister, considered the resignation of the presidents of the Coordination and Regional Development Commissions (CCDR) of the Algarve and the North as a "total scandal", accusing the socialist government of instrumentalizing public administration.

«In fact, what happened in the Algarve was a political clean-up. It was meant that someone who may have responsibilities in another party cannot preside over a CCDR", said Passos Coelho, assuring that David Santos, as president of the CCDR Algarve, did not have any behavior of "disloyalty or incompetence in his duties" .

The national leader of the Social Democrats, who was speaking in Coimbra, at the closing of the 7th Congress of Social-Democratic Mayors, also said that the resignations announced on Thursday reveal the «appetite to exploit what are the powers of the administration in favor of a partisan policy, which cannot be accepted in a democratic state after 40 years of the Constitution».

The office of the Minister of Planning and Infrastructure, which announced on Thursday, in a statement, the two exonerations, explained the resignation of David Santos for "not being met the necessary conditions for observing the guidelines issued from above."

However, on Friday, David Santos himself announced, in a short statement, that, for now, it will not comment "on this whole process, until its final decision".

David Santos, who was elected president of the PSD/Algarve District Political Commission last January 30, and was also manager of CRESC Algarve2020, had been appointed president of the CCDR of the Algarve in December 2014, for a service commission that should have a five-year term.

This appointment culminated a process of public examination to fill the position, through the Commission for Recruitment and Selection for Public Administration (CRESAP).

Previously, David Santos was already president of CCDRA, on a replacement basis, having been appointed in 2012.
