The Government announced today the resignation of the chairman of the Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR) of the Algarve, David Santos. The president of CCDR Norte was also dismissed.
The office of the Minister of Planning and Infrastructure explains the resignation of David Santos because "the necessary conditions for observing the guidelines issued from above" were not met.
The "administrative procedures for the replacement of those responsible" of the two CCDRs were started "immediately", added the Government.
According to online edition of Público, David Santos' successor will be Francisco Serra, current director of the Superior School of Management and Hospitality of the University of Algarve and former administrator of the Hospital de Faro.
The resignation of David Santos was already expected, due to his strong connection to the PSD, especially after having been elected, on January 30, President of the PSD/Algarve District Political Commission, a situation that led the leader of the Algarve PS to ask for his resignation from the CCDR. PS/Algarve considered that the election of David Santos as regional leader of the PSD was incompatible with the exemption that that position requires.
At the time, the socialists considered it "little credible that the elected president of the PSD/Algarve meets the conditions of trust, independence, impartiality, impartiality and loyalty required, namely to develop any delegation of powers and operationalize the determinations received from members of the Government in the exercising their professional functions, while leading the opposition at the same time outside office hours, in regional terms'.

David Santos, who was also manager of CRESC Algarve2020, had been appointed president of the CCDR of the Algarve in December 2014, for a service commission that should have a five-year term.
This appointment culminated a process of public examination to fill the position, through the Commission for Recruitment and Selection for Public Administration (CRESAP).
Previously, David Santos was already president of CCDRA, on a replacement basis, having been appointed in 2012.
