The Spirit of the Past_Castelo Paderne_DiVaM2016_1Stories of forbidden love will be much older than the ancient stones of the Castle of Paderne, as old as human societies.

This Saturday, more than imagining, those who visited this monument in the municipality of Albufeira could witness one of these stories, told by Amarelarte in the performance/theatrical intervention «O Espírito do Passado», held as part of another edition of the DiVaM program of the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve.

Many people climbed the slope to reach Paderne Castle and watch this spectacle. Upstairs, in addition to the monument and the view, they had a “family” of Muslims waiting for them and a love plot involving an Arab girl and a Christian boy.

The story, like many of the legends inspired by forbidden love, doesn't end well for the characters. But, in this case, it ended in the best way for the audience, who, in addition to the performance, had the opportunity to try a snack served by the Muslim “family”, in a quiet and sunny evening in the Algarve. And there was not even a lack of music, provided by harpist and singer Helena Madeira, to make the environment even more special.

«The Spirit of the Past» is a creation by Amarelarte which, although fictional, is inspired by historical research. The show featured actors Luis Nogueira, Helena Madeira and Nicole Lissy. The poems by Domingos Cerejo and the photography and image were in charge of Katia Viola.
