Urban RehabilitationThe Chamber of Faro wants to add more than 4 million euros to the Municipal Budget, carried over from the previous year, and the CDU, the party that is in opposition, says it has seen "this 1st Budget Review 2016 as an opportunity that could not be missed", negotiating proposals in the area of Social Housing and urban rehabilitation with the permanent executive of the PSD/CDS and with the PS.

The final proposal, unanimously approved by the nine councilors of the Chamber of Faro, including that of the CDU, ended up with measures not initially foreseen in the document originally presented by the team of the Mayor of Faro Rogerio Cod.

According to the communists, with the contribution of the opposition, “the problem of social housing gained prominence and financial means: 780 thousand euros were allocated to it”. The idea, they say, is to make the municipality “an active subject and intervening partner in the urban rehabilitation process, linking this to the urgent need to allocate social housing to the poorest families in the municipality”.

On the other hand, the budget destined to the maintenance of the municipal patrimony of social housing houses «was reinforced with 40 thousand euros».

«The project for the construction of municipal neighborhoods in Estoi, Braciais and Montenegro, with a strong component of social housing, but also with the ambition of providing housing for diverse social strata, always with the social perspective of integrating and not ghettoising, was endowed with thirty thousand euros,” added the communists.

The CDU also recalled the proposal to increase the amount foreseen for the amortization of the debt contracted under the PAEl from around 700 thousand to just over one million euros, something that, they argue, “expresses well the desire that the Municipality of Faro it has to free itself from the constraints of Program I of the PAEL – Plan to Support the Local Economy, the Financial Adjustment Plan, the Financial Rebalancing Plan and the FAM – Municipal Support Fund, all the work of the previous PSD/CDS government, as , for example, the spill and the IMI – Municipal Property Tax at the maximum rate suffocate, as we have always said, companies and families».

The opposition party, in Faro, also criticized the PSD, accusing this party of «instrumentalization of the popular associative movement, previously sending a communication to the council's collectives trying to condition the voting options of the different political forces, in order to specifically hold the CDU responsible for any non-approval of the initial proposal of the PSD/CDS for the 1st Budget Review».

«The PCP, while moving away from this type of populist practices, reaffirms that the CDU will continue, as it has always done, to fight for the interests of Faro and of the Farenses, freed from any pressure or blackmail in the exercise of their municipal positions», assure the communists.
