barber shop just_1Barbearia Just, on the Guia roundabout, on the edge of the EN125, is not limited to haircuts or beards. Once a month there is live music, there is always beer, medronho or good Algarve wines to drink while you wait, a (or a) photographer on duty every week. And, between tomorrow and Saturday, you'll even have a marathon cutting hair and beard.

Yes, this is one of those barbershops for men with a thick beard. But here, «the ladies are even welcome, if they want to drink a medronho or a wine», says Arménio Pereira, the young man who created Barbearia Just and all his stuff. retro look, making it a «barbershop unlike anything that already existed in the Algarve». However, he warns: "a barbershop is a place to talk about the ball, women and politics." Girl comes in, but…

Tomorrow, Friday, the 24th of June, at 10 am, Arménio Pereira will pick up scissors and a razor to start a marathon cutting hair and beard. Only on Saturday, at 20 pm, will this task be finished. And it announces that "the last customer is entitled to a surprise". Which one will be, the young barber does not reveal, of course.

Arménio Pereira is, all of him, a character. has a retro look, with a fine and very well-trimmed mustache, a stylish haircut, always wears a hat and vest. His barbershop, with which he intends to "go back to ancient traditions, but with a touch of modernity", is decorated with large black and white photographs, antique objects, lamps and furniture with a good look. vintage. All that's missing is an old barber's chair, which Arménio has been looking for.

But don't think that because it looks like this Retro, Barbershop Just is not very modern. On the contrary. And this can be seen not only in the cuts and treatments that Arménio offers to his clients, but also in the fact that his live music concerts – he already had pop-rock, reggae, cante alentejano, fado there – are broadcast on your facebook page.

Older people aren't used to this and won't be calling for a haircut. They pass by and see how long they will have to wait, the old-fashioned way. Most of my clients are between 25 and 30 or so years old. But I have a 92-year-old client».

As for haircuts and beards, Armenio confesses that what he likes «is the concept old school, with traditional cuts, also with a razor beard». But as you can see in the photos he almost every day sharing on the facebook of Barbearia Just, is able to make any cut, however complicated or artistic it may be. And even giving any customer a cool of football player.

And why is Barbearia Just located on the Guia roundabout, right on the EN125? Here, you will have to tell a little about the story of Arménio Pereira, who was born Santana da Serra, in the municipality of Ourique, Alentejo, but came to the Algarve twelve years ago to work. He started by doing it as a security guard, in clubs, bars and commercial spaces, but he soon got tired of that life.

«As I was already cutting hair for some friends, I thought of launching myself in that area». After undergoing training, he decided to go ahead with an investment out of his pocket – around 10 thousand euros – to open a barbershop that was “much more than shaving and cutting hair”.

Not wanting to be stuck in a city, he decided to "choose a place of passage, to pick up customers from all over". And so it ended up being the space at the Guia roundabout, which opened in November 2015.

“I've been open for just over six months and I didn't expect to have so many customers after such a short time. I serve an average of 20 clients per day, many of them are resident foreigners, but most are Portuguese, some of them people from Guia and the surrounding area. But many come from outside».

The prices, despite all the quality of service and space, are very affordable: 7 euros for a haircut, 5 euros for a beard, 10 euros for hair and beard. A full shaving treatment, which lasts one hour, costs 15 euros. And with the added bonus of shaving using the hot towel you see in the movies.

For the most demanding men, on Mondays Just has a beautician to deal with male aesthetics.

Therefore, he has already promoted a photo session with «girls pin ups», to make a solidarity calendar, whose revenues revert to APEXA, a local association.

In September, Arménio will be in the Netherlands for a few days, training, at the barbershop that inspired the wave of houses old school such as yours and others across the country and across Europe.

In October, the Barbershop Just and its owner want to organize a Tour of the Municipality, with the six motorcycle clubs with which it has partnerships. There will be, he promises, «classic cars, motorcycles, lunch and gifts». We will soon learn more about this project.

But as Arménio Pereira does not stop, in July he will be at the Motard Concentration of Faro, dealing with the cool of the bikers from all over the world that go there. On those days, he warns, the barbershop at the Guia roundabout will be closed.

If you want to get to know this one, which presents itself only as a barbershop, but in reality it is much more, it is a real space for socializing, now you have an excellent opportunity, with the marathon that starts this Friday at 10:00 am and continues until 20:00 on Saturday. Take a leap there and take care of your cool for the summer that has just begun.
