A fire in a tire warehouse, located in Paço, near Algoz, is already being fought by firefighters from Silves, Messines, Albufeira and Loulé. The latter were sent to the site to reinforce the fight against the flames.
Source from the District Operational Relief Command (CDOS) told the Sul Informação that the alert was received at 17:30 pm, with no further details about the fire. In any case, there are no reports of any injuries.
The thick column of black smoke from this fire is visible for a radius of tens of kilometers. A resident of the area told our newspaper that, in the vicinity of the tire warehouse, there are several houses, which are not being threatened by the flames.
The interior of the warehouse, however, was already completely consumed by the fire, leaving only the walls and the remains of tires, which continue to burn. The flames also caused the roof to collapse.
The firefighters' source said that the fire will take many hours to fully put out due to the sluggish combustion of the tyres.
According to information from the CDOS, the fire was fought by 39 operatives, with 16 vehicles, including elements of the Fire Department of São Bartolomeu de Messines, Silves, Albufeira and Loulé, with the support of the GNR. Backhoe machines were also used in the operations.
