Ameixial Hiking Festival 2016_29The Algarve Tourism Region (RTA) promotes the roadshow «Algarve Encanta» in Barcelona and Madrid, on the 18th and 19th of May, respectively, to publicize the air routes low cost between Faro and those Spanish cities, as well as the attractions of the region in spring.

The RTA thus brings together travel agents, operators and sector professionals with hotel groups, companies and professionals from the Algarve, to reinforce the region's accessibility from Spain.

On May 7th, Vueling reopens its Barcelona-Faro, which will be available until October 29, with three weekly flights, while the Air Nostrum, which resumed direct connections between Madrid and Faro last March 18th until October 28th, will have five weekly flights.

RTA emphasizes that these two air routes are strategic for the Algarve, as they boost the demand of the Spanish market in the region and facilitate the visit of tourists from the neighboring country, to enjoy spring breaks, as the southern region of Portugal is now just an hour away from the main Spanish cities.

"Last year, these routes verified a strong adhesion. These air connections are an opportunity for the region and we hope that, thanks to them, the Algarve hotels will repeat the good results of 2015, a year in which they received 300 thousand Spanish guests, which represents an increase of 5,7% compared to 2014» , explains the president of RTA Desidério Silva.

These direct air connections are the result of the work developed, over the last few years, by the Algarve Tourism Region in promoting new routes that connect Faro to the main airports on the Iberian Peninsula.

At the same time, RTA promotes the region's attractions in Spain in spring, as, due to its geographical proximity, the Algarve is a privileged destination for city breaks out of high season.

With pleasant temperatures throughout the year and an average of 300 days of sunshine, the Algarve is a perfect destination to enjoy contact with nature and carry out outdoor activities such as birdwatching, hiking, mountain biking, surfing, boat trips, dolphin watching, among others.
