Algarve and Spain are once again strongly connected in 2016 through air connections. Starting tomorrow, coinciding with the start of the traditional Easter holidays, Spanish tourists can once again enjoy the beauty of the Algarve via a direct flight from Madrid with less than 60 minutes duration.
The airline Air Nostrum kicks off this Friday by reopening its direct route from the Spanish capital to the International Airport of Faro, after the success achieved in this operation in 2015.
The Madrid-Faro by Air Nostrum is not only reinforced, but anticipated by more than two months in relation to 2015, since, last year, the company only started operating the route in the month of June.
Direct flights to and from Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suarez airport will continue until 28 October, with five weekly connections (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays).
On the other hand, the offer of direct connections with Spain will be intensified in May, with the Barcelona-Faro, operated by Vueling, which also repeats the successful experience carried out in 2015 and also anticipates the resumption of operations.
From May 7th until October 29th there will be direct flights between the International Airport of Faro and El Prat de Barcelona, with three weekly calls (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays).
For the president of the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA) Desidério Silva, these direct connections with Spain «reinforce the commitment of airlines to our destination and are the result of the interest of Spanish tourists in the Algarve and the huge participation that these routes had in 2015 ». “This is excellent news”, he emphasizes.
«We closed the year of 2015 reaching historic highs at the International Airport of Faro», recalls the president of the RTA. «We handled 6,4 million passengers through our airport, which represents a growth of 4,4% compared to the previous year, which in itself reveals the interest in the Algarve destination», he concludes.
