The Municipality of Lagoa is creating seven Urban Regeneration Areas (ARU) in the city and county seat, as well as in the main localities: Carvoeiro, Estômbar, Ferragudo, Mexilhoeira da Carregação, Parchal and Porches.
This measure, as revealed by Francisco Martins, president of the Chamber of Lagoa, in an interview with Sul Informação, aims to «promote the improvement of the urban environment through the physical rehabilitation of buildings», whether of buildings for housing, commerce and services, or equipment for collective use and public space, with urban regeneration interventions to be developed in the streets.
These ARU are associated with fiscal incentives and benefits for urban rehabilitation, which the Lagoon mayor hopes will be pleasing to the owners of the buildings, in order to encourage them to invest.
The creation of the seven ARUs involves the elaboration of a PARU – Urban Regeneration Action Plan, an instrument intended to serve as a basis for supporting the projects that may be presented. It is that the owners will be able to have access to community financing, under the CRESC Algarve 2020.
Francisco Martins added that, within the scope of this urban redevelopment that is intended for the main towns in the municipality of Lagoa, the City Council is studying «the creation of a consortium with a bank and some construction companies, with a credit line at special prices. », in order to guarantee more advantageous conditions for owners who want to invest.
