Trumpeter Hugo Alves, director and founder of Algarve Jazz Orchestra, takes the stage with Gregory Burk, Luís Henrique and Michael Lauren, promising an innovative show with the interpretation of original themes, prepared for the next album.

International Jazz Day, celebrated on April 30, was created by UNESCO and announced by pianist and goodwill ambassador Herbie Hancock.

Considered one of the great names of national jazz and master of the trumpet, Hugo Alves has an impressive international curriculum.

On drums, there is the New Yorker Michael Lauren, from one of the best schools in the world – the
Berkeley College of New York. Author of seven books about Jazz, he played with world mythical names such as Paul Anka, Chuck Berry, Charles Brown, Tom Jones, The Drifters, The Platters, among many others.

American pianist Gregory Burk is also part of the quartet. Heir to one of the jazz legends – Paul Bley – his work is recognized worldwide by jazz giants such as Larry Smith, Bobby Battle, Donald Walden and George Goldsmith.

On double bass, will be Luís Henrique, who collaborated with important national and international names, such as João Frade, Duncan Kinnel, Clive Pracy, Yami, Fernando Girão, João Gil, Tuniko Goulart, among others.

The musicians bring a repertoire of original themes by Hugo Alves, among which stand out Castanhitos, Velho Lagar, Blue Elephant, Strange Nature, Rice Mills, In the Catarina Castle, Dois Velhos, North Near and Another Silver Sky.

The concert is the result of a partnership between the Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve and the Municipality of Albufeira in collaboration with UNESCO/Thelonious Monk Institute/International Jazz Day and with the support of the Secretary of State for Culture/General Directorate of Arts.

On the same day 30, but at 21 pm, the Centro Cultural de Lagos receives a concert by the Algarve Jazz Orchestra, with Hugo Alves in the direction, which will have as guests the pianist Greg Burk and Maria Anadon. Tickets cost 10 euros or 8 euros (for youth and seniors card).
