New Image Monterosa Olive Oil 2016Monterosa Extra Virgin Olive Oil, produced in the Algarve, won three gold medals and two silver medals in the international Olive Japan 2016 competition, in which 600 olive oils from 21 countries participated. The results of the contest were released on April 25th.

The three monovarietal oils, produced by Viveiros Moterosa, Maçanilha, Verdeal and Picual received the “gold” and Cobrançosa and Frantoio received silver medals.

In 2015, two of the Monterosa monovarietals had already been distinguished in this competition for extra virgin oils from the Asian continent.

These awards are added to those obtained in New York, Los Angeles and Spain and are, for the company, «the recognition of the quality and excellence that these farm oils produced in the Algarve have at an international level».

This year, Azeite Monterosa appeared on the market with a renewed image, starting to be sold in a black screen-printed bottle with a new design. The bottle is completely opaque to protect the oil completely from light.

Maçanilha, Cobrançosa, Verdeal and Picual were joined, this year, for the first time by the new single varietal Frantoio, which is, according to the company, «a famous Italian variety that has been spreading throughout the whole olive-growing world».

In addition to single varietals, there is Selection «which is produced with a mixture of varieties duly selected by the team's internal panel of tasters».
