São Pedro Gonçalves TelmoThe Parish Council of Ferragudo is collaborating with the local parish in the recovery of sacred works of art, having paid for the restoration of three important pieces.

The partnership between the two institutions began with the restoration of the image of S. Pedro Gonçalves Telmo, existing in the Igreja Matriz. This saint is the patron of the Ferragudo Maritime Commitment, a building that the Parish Council also recovered in 2015, to keep the «memory of its fishing community».

Then it was time for the restoration of the crucifix and the altar in a cone in the Cemetery Chapel, pieces that date back to the 30s of the last century, and which will soon «be available to visitors to this space, when the restoration work on the cemetery chapel is completed. .

In the total of these three interventions, 4000 euros were spent, an amount that, «although it may seem small, is large for the coffers of our parish», revealed Luís Alberto, president of the Junta de Ferragudo.

This municipal official highlighted the effort that has been made in the «preservation of the village's heritage, not only in order to perpetuate the memories of other times, as well as the experiences» of the people.

The mayor recalls that, over the years, the Parish Council of Ferragudo has preserved «several historic landmarks», such as «the spouts, wells and columns from the last century that now decorate the entrance to Largo Rainha D. Leonor, but which constituted the border for the crossing to the other bank (of the Arade river), in the crossing area where the bridge that connects to Portimão stands today».
