São Marcos da Serra receives, on Easter weekend, the XVIII edition of Feira do Folar. In addition to the folklore, which is the “king” of the festival, there will be other mountain delicacies, religious celebrations and also musical entertainment.
According to the Municipality of Silves, the Folar Fair «seeks to promote the interior of the county and popular culture, namely in the parish of S. Marcos da Serra, conveying the know-how of local people, their traditions, gastronomy and handicraft and involving agents and representatives of the local community'.
The municipality explains that S. Marcos da Serra is «known for the manufacture of bread and “Folar”, the most traditional Easter sweet, sweet and scented with cinnamon and fennel, decorated with whole eggs and made from a dough leavened with baker's yeast'.
The event is organized by the Municipality of Silves, with the support of the local Parish Council, Serrano Futebol Clube, the Humanitarian Association of S. Marcos and the Caixa de Crédito Agrícola Mútuo of SB Messines and São Marcos da Serra.
