CMA_8498The Municipality of Albufeira bought a building in the parish of Ferreiras, which will be recovered for social housing, with the possibility of installing, on the ground floor of the building, the Junta de Freguesia de Ferreiras. The property cost the municipality 250 thousand euros.

The building, located in Tominhal/Lagoas, comprises 5 dwellings and 4 shops.

The Municipality of Albufeira added that «the decision to acquire the property was taken, unanimously, at the Chamber session last December 16, with the aim of recovering it in order to meet social housing needs. The ground floor of the building could house the headquarters of the Parish Council of Ferreiras».

This possibility was assessed last Thursday, February 4th, when the mayor visited the property accompanied by the president and secretary of the Parish Council of Ferreiras, Fernando Gregório and Duarte Cabrita, respectively.

Currently, the Parish Council of Ferreiras is installed in a rented building, with an annual income of 19 thousand euros.

CMA_8510The Municipality of Albufeira adds that «this acquisition is part of a broader objective of the municipality, which aims not only to increase the number of units for social housing, but also to guarantee the purchase of a non-residential space that could be used by public services. who want to be close to the populations, with the Ferreiras Parish Council having a natural priority».

Ferreiras is, after Albufeira, the parish that grew the most in the last ten years, having increased from 4 951 residents in 2001 to 6 406 residents in 2011 (data from the last INE census), which, according to the City Council, «implies enormous pressure on basic infrastructure, housing, education and service provision'.

Carlos Silva e Sousa considers that the works should start as soon as possible, stressing that “the property has excellent conditions to meet some needs of the parish”.
