Luxury panel debates startups and entrepreneurship in Portimão

Startup Europe Week@Portimão“Is the Algarve a fertile ground for the creation of startups? What opportunities, ecosystem and funding for creating new businesses in the Algarve? How to create a startup? What are the main obstacles and opportunities for the creation of technology-based companies in the Algarve? How do you create and foster an entrepreneurial ecosystem? Will it be possible to innovate in the Algarve?”

These will be some of the issues to be debated on February 5th, at SEW's main event, in Portimão, “Start Talking About…”, which will feature a panel of leading guests in the area of ​​national and regional entrepreneurship.

Portimão will thus join more than 220 European cities that, during the week of February 1st to 5th, will promote various activities within the scope of the “Startup Europe Week” - SEW, a mega entrepreneurship event promoted by the European Commission and Startup Europe, with a view to publicizing and promoting the creation of new technology-based companies in the various regions of Europe.

From 18:00 pm on Friday, February 5, at TEMPO- Teatro Municipal de Portimão, a debate on the creation of an entrepreneurial ecosystem will be launched, startups and institutional support existing in the Algarve.

André Marquet, co-founder and president of Productized.co and co-founder of Beta-i, Bruno Carlos, general director of Clarnet Soho Portugal, Hugo Barros, coordinator of CRIA- Universidade do Algarve, João Saleiro, co-founder of Boonzi.pt (personal finance software) and David Santos, president of CCDR Algarve and CRESC Algarve 2020. The moderation will be led by Luís Correia, co-founder of PopcornMetrics.com and co-organizer of Startup Europe Week in Portimão.

The “Start Talking About…” starts at 18:00, with a reception to the participants and presentation of the European initiative Startup Europe Week, followed by the panel discussion on the entrepreneurial ecosystem, startups and existing supports, with room for questions and answers and debate with the public.

From 21 pm onwards, participants will be invited to continue the networking, in the company of glasses and snacks in the best taverns in town.

The event has free entry, with tickets available at https://www.amiando.com/sew_portimao, and is especially aimed at entrepreneurs who want to make a difference in the Algarve region and wish to create their businesses here, with special emphasis on technology-based ones, contributing to the creation of an entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Algarve.

The day before, on February 4, in warm-up mode for the main event, the local organization challenges all entrepreneurs to share their failures on the path to success and participate in the “Warm-up: let's talk about failure ”, a relaxed session where the idea is to talk about what doesn't always go well and, above all, how to avoid it.

This warm up it will take place between 19:00 and 20:30, at Taberna Cool 33, in Portimão, and is free of charge. registration on the SEW Portimão website.

And because it is important to stimulate an entrepreneurial spirit among the school public, SEW Portimão will also promote on February 4th, at 11:50 am, a special session for some 12th grade classes in the Science area and finalists in Informatics at Escola Secundária Poeta António Aleixo , with the participation of Luís Correia, who will share his inspiring journey and introduce the world of Startups.

SEW Portimão is co-organized with Startup Europe Week and has as local organizers two entrepreneurs – Luís Correia and Maria Nobre de Carvalho -, also counting on a partnership with the Municipality of Portimão.
Luís Correia is a native and resident of the municipality of Portimão, founder of the startup www.popcornmetrics.com, a platform for digital marketers based in London.

group booster StartAlgarve, which promotes monthly events with others founders in the Algarve, Luís Correia argues that the Algarve has excellent conditions for the development of an ecosystem for the creation of startups technological. He is involved in several events promoting entrepreneurship in the Algarve. He is a guest speaker and mentor at various events on entrepreneurship.

Maria Nobre de Carvalho moved to the Algarve in 2003 to work in a small startup which, two years later, is acquired by a North American company.

For eight years he was, from the Algarve, responsible for the global implementation strategy of the 2nd largest travel agency online for North American college students.

In 2013, he created his own business, Beat Social Engagement, a marketing consultancy company based in Lagos.

With a special taste for volunteering, he joins the Association Web of Impulses and to the Vela Solidária Project and deepens the interest in social entrepreneurship, dedicating, today, a great part of his time to the production and promotion of cultural and recreational events in the Barlavento Algarvio.

For the Municipality of Portimão, organizing this event, in partnership with these two local entrepreneurs, follows the “dynamism that the Municipality has been advocating in promoting entrepreneurship in the Algarve Region and reinforces the commitment to continue to make Portimão, not only a meeting point for entrepreneurs, but also actively contributing to the creation of a local entrepreneurial ecosystem”.

SEW Portimão also has the support of dissemination by the Sul Informação and PopcornMetrics.com, and the collaboration of students from the Multimedia Course at Escola Secundária Poeta António Aleixo, in terms of photographic coverage.
