Corta Mato Regional Championship_1More than 600 athletes, from different clubs in the Algarve, will go to Olhão to compete in the Regional Championship of Corta-Mato (Long) and Corta Mato Jovem do Pechão, on Sunday, January 17, at 10 am. The competitions take place on the grounds of Pinheiros de Marim, next to the Camping Park and the headquarters of the Ria Formosa Natural Park.

In the Regional Championship, athletes from the Youth, Junior, Senior and Veteran (Masters) levels will participate. The Pechão Youth Cross-country, which runs in parallel, is aimed at the levels of Benjamins, Infants, Initiates and Youths. In dispute will be regional, individual and collective titles, at different levels.

Among the athletes who will be present are several internationals, namely Vera Fernandes (Belavista), Ana Dias (Areias S. João), Ana Cabecinha, Catarina Marques and Edna Barros (CO Pechão), in the female contingent, and, in Men, Jorge Varela, Manuel Ferraz and Paulo Soares (Areias S. João).

The Clube Oriental de Pechão, which organizes the competition in partnership with the Municipality of Olhão and the Algarve Athletics Association, recalled that the absolute champions in title are currently Ana Dias and Jorge Varela, both from Areias de São João, from Albufeira.

By teams, the Pechão club holds the titles of champion in Youth, Juniors and Seniors Females, the collective titles of Youths and Seniors Males are from Areias de São João and the Junior Males is from Lagos and Benfica.

The organizing entities have the support of the Parish Councils of Pechão, Quelfes and Olhão, the Municipal Fire Department of Olhão, the Arbitration Council of AA Algarve, the Union of Bank Workers of the South and Islands, Lusitânia – Insurance and local businesses in taking the test.
