Tolls Via do Infante_1"The most sensible solution is to reduce the tolls on the A50 by 22 percent, thus alleviating the costs of citizens and companies while maintaining the user-pays principle", he defended Steven de Sousa Piedade, the national director by Algarve of the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE).

In a public position, the association leader maintained that, despite believing in the user-pays principle and having always defended the extinction of the lanes No Cost to the User (Scut), the case of the Infante lane is different, as it is of a road “without the profile of a motorway, with great socio-economic importance for the region, built with recourse to community funds and for which there are no viable road alternatives”.

«Since mobility is a fundamental factor for the quality of life of citizens and for the competitiveness of companies, there is no justification for charging such high tolls on the A22, a route for which there is no effective alternative. Furthermore, the main economic activity in the region, tourism, is not compatible with the third-world image given by the EN125 and above all with the mobility problems that this road entails», considered the also president of the Parish Council of Montenegro, in Faro, elected by the PSD/CDS/PPM/MIM coalition.

From a more business-oriented perspective, Steven Piedade recalls that the business fabric of the Algarve is "overwhelmingly made up of SMEs", for which "moving on the A22 represents an unbearable cost of tolls". The EN125 «subjects the Algarve companies to delays, road risks and increased expenses with fuel».

“For many tourists, driving on the A22 is a luxury they cannot enjoy, and the supposed alternative, the EN125, is a bad calling card for the region, for the reasons already mentioned here: slowness, insecurity and discomfort,” he added.
