José Carlos Barros and Cristóvão NorteJosé Carlos Barros and Cristóvão Norte, PSD deputies elected by the circle of Faro, will promote a series of initiatives related to concessions for prospecting and potential exploration of hydrocarbons in the Algarve.

Since then, like what happened with AMAL, the parliamentarians will request a meeting with the Entity
National for the Fuel Market (ENMC) to seek to know in greater detail the terms and conditions of the contracts entered into.

On the other hand, they will request a hearing from government officials responsible for the areas of energy and the environment, a circumstance in which they will try to see answered many of the questions that have dominated the regional public debate in recent months and that culminated in the presentation of a petition in the Assembly of the Republic and with the approval of motions in several municipal assemblies.

The deputies understand that a thorough clarification is required, demand transparency and recognize that this process – launched in 2009 – was not conducted by successive governments with the clarity and concertation that are an unavoidable foundation of citizens' trust.

They recall, on the other hand, that, in the previous legislature, the most relevant political initiatives on this matter came from PSD deputies.

Meanwhile, José Carlos Barros, member of the Parliamentary Committee for the Environment and Spatial Planning, was appointed rapporteur of the Petition “An Algarve free of exploration, prospecting, exploration and production of oil and natural gas (conventional or non-conventional)”.
