Installing Commission Guadiana Olympic Studies CenterThe Guadiana Olympic Studies Center should be born soon in Vila Real de Santo António and Ayamonte, the result of a partnership between these two municipalities, the Olympic Academy of Portugal, the International Committee of the Quelfes Games, the University of Algarve, the University of Huelva and the Center for Olympic Studies at the University Pablo de Olavide (Seville).

This will be the first structure of its kind in the world with a cross-border nature.

The first meeting of the installation commission of the center took place last Thursday and served to set the strategy to make this project a reality. At the meeting it was decided that the commission «will try to make this project official with the National Olympic Authorities, both in Portugal and in Spain, following a preparatory process that will include the collection of physical resources and the preparation of online accesses that allow a easier access and consultation, not only for researchers, but for the general public», according to Gustavo Marcos, from the Olympic Academy of Portugal and mentor of the Quelfes Games.

«More than a mere place of study, the Guadiana Olympic Studies Center intends to assert itself as an institution promoting Olympism, disseminating a philosophy of life that is within everyone's reach, as well as developing various initiatives that give expression to this objective », he added.

This initiative is «a commitment to Olympism as a motor of personal and social development, namely in the school environment, constituting an axis between the Algarve and Andalusia, Portugal and Spain, to which the other municipalities that organize the Cheuff games, Faro, Loulé, Olhão, São Brás de Alportel and Tavira, in an expression of support that they even intend to approve at the headquarters of the respective municipal assemblies».

The idea of creating this center was born last September, at a meeting of the General Organizing Committee of the Quelfes Games, which took place in Tavira.
