Albufeira Floods (63)1400 insurance cases opened and more than 14 million euros in damages covered in the policies already activated. These are the numbers that the Portuguese Association of Insurers (APS) has calculated so far, in relation to the damage caused by the storm on 1 November in the Algarve. But these could still be numbers below.

Fifteen days after the storm, "there is a significant increase in the support of the insurance activity to the victims of this catastrophe, when comparing the most recent data with those collected a week ago", stresses the APS in a press release.

Indeed, and according to information collected by this Association, «the number of claims covered by insurance policies is already close to 1.400, with associated amounts slightly above 14 million euros (between indemnities already paid and provisions constituted)'.

However, "these numbers should continue to underestimate the dimension of this event, not only because the expert work and damage assessment are still under way, but also because it is suspected that some owners affected by the storm will not yet have presented the corresponding claims to their insurers ».

According to data compiled by the APS, the largest number of open claim processes (over 800) concerns damage to homes, with compensation in the order of 4,8 million euros.

On the other hand, although the approximately 310 claims verified in commercial and industrial establishments correspond to less than half of those registered in housing, the amount of the respective damages is already above 8,5 million euros.

Reference should also be made to the damage caused to around 160 motor vehicles covered by appropriate policies, the amount of which exceeds 510 thousand euros.

APS will continue to update this information in the coming weeks, until the consequences of this storm in the Algarve are consolidated.
