Messines offers a taste of its cuisine throughout a week of intense flavors

These are just some of the (delicious) proposals of the seven restaurants that, from the 28th of November to the 6th of December, are part of the São Bartolomeu de Messines Gastronomic Week.

But don't think that the initiative of the Parish Council of this town in the municipality of Silves, which is now in its 10th edition, ends here. On Saturday, November 28th, marking the opening of the Gastronomic Week, at 9:00 am, at Messines Market, there will be a showcooking with Cátia Santos and a demonstration of culinary decoration with Cristin's Carvings.

Then the program for this opening day move weapons and luggage to the Casa do Povo in Messines, where, from 15 pm to 18 pm, there is an open cooking class with great chefs from the Algarve cuisine. If you are interested, take advantage, because registration is open.

At the same time, in addition to another demonstration of culinary decoration, Jorge Cipriano, from Clube de Vinhos de Portugal, will taste some of the best nectars.

From 18pm to 20pm, still at Casa do Povo, the restaurants participating in the Week of Gastronomy serve snacks, and then start serving dinners from 00pm onwards.

Messines gastronomic weekThroughout the day, and because Messines is also a land of music, dance and other arts, there will be entertainment with Nelson Conceição's accordion, the traditional music of the Rastemenga group, the Grupo Coral da Casa do Povo, the dances of Rancho Folclórico de Messines, Marco António, theater and the performance of the plastic artist Flay Pontes.

On the remaining days of the Gastronomic Week, the hostilidades they are transferred to the participating restaurants. And in these places, in addition to the good dishes of Messina tradition, there is also the possibility of tasting the fruit of the work of local producers, such as José Leonardo Palma and his medronho brandy, distilled at Zebro de Cima, the pure honey of Artur Jorge Batista, rosemary honey by Leonardo Camacho, José Luz Guerreiro and Jorge Coelho, spicy by Leonardo Camacho and «Algarve Peppers», from the neighboring parish of Paderne, or regional homemade sweets by Matilde Alves, Marília Louçã, Teodorina Madeira and Josélia Luz (JMGL).

João Carlos Correia, president of the Parish Council of São Bartolomeu de Messines, points out that «in the Barrocal Algarvio, where our parish is located, we have access to the predominant fish on the coast, vegetables, aromatic herbs, meat and game of the saw. I believe that it is in this mixture of knowledge, experiences and flavors that lies the ability to streamline local and regional cuisine, bringing to our parish, county and region the due recognition, in order to be an unavoidable reference point in Mediterranean cuisine and tourism differentiated quality. Our people, knowledge and flavors are our most precious asset».

Last week, at the time of fam trip of journalists and travel agents to the municipality of Silves, the mayor had already pointed out that «Messines was very strong in the commercial and agricultural area. But in recent years, within a radius of 50 kilometers, several large commercial areas have opened that have come to stifle our small business. We still have two oil mills, some carob, but the almond trade, for example, no longer exists».
