cataplanaCataplanas, xarém, razor clam rice, algarvian squid and cuttlefish, wild boar chunks, fried cuttlefish roe are some of the delicacies that the Algarve presents, from today until November 1st, at the National Gastronomy Festival, which takes place at the Casa do Campino, in Santarém.

This year, the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA) will be represented by the restaurant Tasca Algarvia, from Faro.

At the stand of the Algarvian restaurant, the most appreciated and famous specialties of the region will be served. Traditional sweets are also present with some of its most emblematic representatives: almond sweet, dom-rodrigo and carob tart.

«It is with great satisfaction that the Algarve is once again present at this gastronomic event, which is the oldest of its kind in the country. Food and wine tourism is a strategic product for the region, as in a globalized world, tourists are increasingly looking for experiences based on local culture and identity. In this sense, we participate in these events in order to promote gastronomic experiences that make known our culture, tradition, authenticity and our style of healthy eating, beyond our regional borders», explains the president of RTA, Desidério Silva.

Organized by Viver Santarém and the Regional Tourism Authority of Alentejo and Ribatejo, the 35th edition of the event is a showcase of regional flavors from across the country, with a view to promoting the national gastronomic heritage.

The Festival aims to enhance the concept of gastronomic experience, combined with the excellence of Portuguese flavors and the diversity of national cuisine, through the participation of renowned restaurants representing all the Tourism Regions, from the North of Portugal to the Algarve, passing through the Islands.

The National Festival of Gastronomy of Santarém also has space for regional handicrafts and musical entertainment.
