The rehabilitated bridge over the Ribeira da Foupana, located on the road connecting the towns of Mestras and Barroso, in Alcoutim, and the section of road network between the EN 124 and the town of Mestras, were inaugurated this Friday.
“Maintenance and repair work was carried out on the bridge in order to provide it with all safety conditions, depending on the seriousness of the detected structural anomalies”. In the stretch of road that was repaired, widening and repaving works were carried out and signs were placed.
The intervention was carried out by the municipality of Alcoutim, with the support of the European Union, through the PO Algarve 21, which contributed 65 percent of the amount that was necessary to invest, which amounted to 286 thousand euros.
The inauguration of these works was attended by the presidents of the Municipality of Alcoutim Osvaldo Gonçalves and the Coordination and Regional Development Commission of Algarve David Santos.
During the session, Osvaldo Gonçalves stated that he was "committed to solving the concrete problems of the populations", referring that "the deplorable state in which this bridge was found, its crossing being significantly affected, in full safety conditions and, therefore, , strongly conditioning the entire population, made it a priority for this executive».
The mayor recalled the reformulation of the application for community funds, which led to the elaboration of the project to recover the existing infrastructure, when the construction of a new bridge was initially considered, an alteration that allowed «to simultaneously equip the equipment with the necessary robustness and conditions of use and reduce the amount of investment'.
David Santos, for his part, congratulated the Municipality of Alcoutim for carrying out the works and praised the vision of the municipal executive who, «realizing that in the 2014-2020 community support framework there would be less capacity to carry out these road rehabilitation works, he proceeded to a reformulation of an application that allowed, together with the financial capacity of the municipality, the realization of this important improvement in accessibility».
