Monchique bookThe book “Legends and Stories of Monchique: History, Tradition and Orality in the Algarve”, by Cláudia Diogo, will be released tomorrow, Friday, October 23, at 17:30 pm, in Monchique, at Restaurante Fonte dos Chorões.

Cláudia Diogo was born in Lisbon in 1967, having lived during her childhood in Almada and in Faro. He graduated in Communication Sciences and completed a Masters in History, starting his professional activity in Macau as a journalist.

Today he lives in Monchique and is a university professor, also developing projects in the areas of marketing and visual arts.

“Legends and Stories of Monchique: History, Tradition and Orality in the Algarve” is a book that resulted from a field work and collection, study and analysis of oral tradition that resulted in a fundamental piece for the in-depth knowledge of the cultural tradition of Monchique and, subsequently, in a broad sense, of history, tradition and orality, in the regional context of the Algarve.

The book is an edition integrated in the “Algarve – Obras Temáticas” collection, promoted by the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, as part of the program to support the Publication of Thematic Works on the Algarve. The purpose of the collection is to promote the dissemination of the Algarve's history and cultural identity.

Under the terms of the regulation of support for the publication of Thematic Works on the Algarve, the selection of works to be supported is made by a consultative commission, composed of a wide spectrum of individuals from various intellectual and political spaces.
