They have witches and other fantastic and magical characters, but they are not meant to be scary, quite the opposite. The lamps from the «Story Telling Ligths» line by the Algarve company Nine Fingers Technologies, a startup born at the University of the Algarve, they are aimed at the little ones, and can serve as a piece of lighting and presence light.

This Saturday, the first product of the line will be presented at Quinta Shopping, in the Quinta do Lago development, in Almancil, where there will be no shortage of storytellers and music.

Whoever goes to the shopping center at the entrance of this tourist development in the municipality of Loulé, today, October 31, at 18 pm, will be able to see the first lamp by Nine Fingers and hear the story associated with it, inspired by the tale Hansel and Gretel, of the Brothers Grimm. In addition to the exhibition of this product, the company will be accompanied by «an actor, who is a storyteller, and a guitarist» and «create a magical environment» specially designed for children.

This is the philosophy behind Nine Fingers lamps: More than decorative or utilitarian pieces, they are technological products with an aura of fantasy and magic.«Our first focus is that our lamps tell a story». explained to Sul Informação Michele Renda, the creator of Nine Fingers Technologies.

Created following the latest contest «Ideias em Caixa» by CRIA – UAlg's Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer Division, launched in 2013, the company has been working for over a year, having focused, in a first phase, on this product . And, despite being “handmade pieces, which take a few months to complete”, Nine Fingers lamps use advanced technology.

Despite its installation being «very simple, like any other lamp», the products of the Algarve company are not limited to switching off and on, according to the creator of Nine Finger Michele Renda, having very useful features, especially for homes with children . “We have installed a circuit that allows, if the light is turned off and on immediately afterwards, the presence lighting is activated. Only a few elements are illuminated, which fade and end up completely erasing, within an hour», illustrated the entrepreneur from Algarve.

The idea of making this type of piece came to Michele Renda in the course of her professional activity. The entrepreneur graduated as an electronics engineer and works in the field of Domotics, aka smart homes. And, through his practice, he realized that there is a world of possibilities in the lighting sector, namely in the integration of circuits and functions, to simplify people's lives and, why not, introduce a little fantasy into their daily lives.

Hansel and Gretel lamp_Photo Nine Fingers Technologies_2In this first generation of lamps, the innovation essentially involves the introduction of this double general lighting/presence function. But, in the near future, the products will take a technological step.

«We are already preparing a new line, in which it will be possible to tell different stories, with the same lamp. We have been working with a psychologist and a therapist, in order to create light scenarios and environments that promote children's relaxation», revealed Michele Renda. Specific scenarios will also be created to calm “children with autism and trisomy 21”.

These environments can be downloaded from the Internet and inserted into the lamp, “which will be prepared to accommodate different lighting circuits” and, in this way, tell different stories. "Our next product, which will focus on the Peter Pan story and should be on the market by Easter, will already integrate this technology," he announced.

To get one of these lamps, you need to place an order and you have to be quick. At each edition, «only five units» are produced, one of which remains with the company, for exhibition. All Nine Fingers Technologies products can be found on the company's website.
