The 7th edition of the Sweet Potato Festival is scheduled for the 23rd, 24th and 25th of October, in the locality of Cavaleiro, in the parish of S. Teotónio, on the coast of the municipality of Odemira.
In addition to the sale of sweet potatoes and the most varied regional sweets in which this product is used, there will be tastings of roasted and boiled sweet potatoes. Entries are free.
The initiative is promoted by the Centro Desportivo e Cultural do Cavaleiro, with the support of the Municipality of Odemira and the Parish Council of S. Teotónio.
Cavaleiro is the area with the largest sweet potato production in the municipality of Odemira, and the Sweet Potato Festival has as its main objective to support local producers, publicize and sell the product and boost the locality.
The initiative will begin at 19 pm on Friday, October 00, at Centro Desportivo e Cultural do Cavaleiro, with the official opening of the party. The performance of traditional music groups “Cavaquinhos do Mira” and “Atar e Pôr ao Fumeiro” is scheduled for 23 pm.
On Saturday, October 24th, from 9:00 am, there will be sales and tastings of sweet potatoes and an exhibition of handicrafts, sweets and a health space.
Between 11:00 and 17:00, there will be street entertainment with the traditional music group “Os Açordas”. The day will end with a ball with artists Duo Ana and Edgar.
On Sunday, the tents open at 11 am and by 14:30 pm there will be street entertainment and the performance of the Rancho Folclórico of the Associação Cultural Recreativa e Desportiva Nexense (Loulé), followed by a matinee at the Social Center with accordionist Catarina Narciso.
During the three days, the Cavaleiro Roca Mar and Snack Bar Adélia restaurants and the Cavaleiro Social Center will have, on their menus, various sweet potato-based dishes and sweets.
