Theater groups in the municipality of Loulé that have legal personality, whether amateurs or professionals, can apply until December 31, 2015 for the Theater Support Grants that the municipality will grant in 2016.
Candidate groups must submit proposals for unpublished theater performances, that is, those that have never been presented. The value of the support is 25 thousand euros, "of which 7500 euros are for the acquisition of sound and light material, 3000 euros for the rental of sound and light material and 14.500 euros for productions", according to the Loulé City Council. All those selected will also receive a subsidy for expenses incurred with food and travel.
Proposals must be delivered to the Division of Culture and Heritage of the City of Loulé, or sent by mail to the Division of Culture and Heritage, Rua Vice-Almirante Cândido dos Reis, nº 36, 8100 Loulé.
Each application must contain technical data of the pieces, namely the title of the piece, name of the director, synopsis, duration, number of intervening elements and respective names, among others. The rules of this contest can be consulted, in full, on the Chamber website.
If supported, theater groups are required to make three performances, starting in March 2016, within the scope of the SCENARIOS – X Mostra de Teatro program promoted by the Câmara de Loulé.
«In the proposals to be presented, candidates must take into account that the theater plays must be suitable for the most varied audiences, taking into account the diversity of the Municipality, the dimensions and technical equipment of the stages, the duration of the show (maximum 90 minutes), to the time of assembly and disassembly of the show, as well as the use of the Portuguese language as the dominant language in the text of the play», illustrated the autarchy.
The amount is awarded based on the points given after the analysis of the proposals by a jury composed of “an individual of recognized artistic competence” and two technicians from the Municipality. The content, creativity/originality, adequacy to the spaces of the shows and audience and the curriculum of the group/director are the evaluation criteria for granting support.
