According to the DGS, the analyzes «performed by the National Institute of Health Dr. Ricardo Jorge, came to confirm the presence of the virus in the collected samples».

Although the Director General of Health, Francisco George, told the Sul Informação, on September 1, that the results of the analyzes would be known "within a week", have only now been revealed.

At the time, the official told our newspaper that a man, «over 70 years old, was treated at the Centro Hospitalar do Algarve, in Faro, was discharged, cured” and that the infection happened “surely” in the Algarve.

In a note published on its website, the DGS says that «these results do not change the previous situation, but confirm the cause of the infection».

«Multi-sectoral preventive measures taken since the detection of the case in the Algarve Region remain in force', the note adds.

The situation will continue to be monitored by the institutions involved which, “in case of need”, will update the information.
