Sailboat1The three crew, of English nationality, of the sailboat "Heptarchy", which sank yesterday afternoon in front of Ilha do Farol, inside the Ria Formosa, they were rescued by the lifeboat.

The operation was coordinated by the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisbon), in conjunction with the captain of Porto da Olhão and the INEM – Guidance Center for Urgent Patients at Sea (CODU-Mar).

According to the Navy, after the request for help was received, the Captain of the Port of Olhão immediately sent a boat from the SR-37 lifeboat station to the location.

Meanwhile, the crew of the sailboat were helped by people until the arrival of the lifeguard.

One of the castaways, who showed signs of hypothermia, was transported after the Olhão pier to the Hospital de Faro.

The sailboat remains in the partially sunken place and, "because it constitutes a danger to navigation, it was signaled with two yellow buoys and two flashes and a warning to navigation was promulgated".

The first survey of the sunken sailboat in an area close to the entrance and exit of the bar. Faro/Olhão was made by divers from the Tunipex company, as well as its signage.
