Portugal's infrastructure invests 860 thousand euros in the Algarve Railway

train1The contract to replace wooden sleepers with concrete at the Alcantarilha, Silves, Estômbar and Mexilhoeira Grande stations was signed on 31 July, thus continuing the investment plan of Infraestruturas de Portugal planned for the Algarve Line, «aiming at the improvement of the efficiency and competitiveness of the rail system», announced that company.

The intervention, awarded to the company OPWAY for the value of 549.436,25 euros and a period of execution of 90 days, which also includes the replacement of short bar rails by welded long bar rails, is complementary to those already carried out at the Olhão stations, Fuzeta, Tavira, Cacela and Vila Real de Santo António.

According to the company Infraestruturas de Portugal, the work is aimed at "strengthening security conditions, increasing the availability and reliability of infrastructure and comfort for passengers."

In the first half of 2015, the contracts for raising the platforms of the Portimão and Cacela Stations were carried out on the Algarve Line, with the aim of facilitating the passengers' embarking/disembarkation process.

Work is underway to replace the roof of the passenger building at the Albufeira Station and renovate the restrooms and raise the platforms at the Vila Real de Santo António and Fuseta Stations.

By the end of 2015, adds the company responsible for the national railway infrastructure, the heightening of the platforms at the Silves Station will be completed, at an estimated cost of 160 thousand euros.

These interventions represent a global investment of around 860 thousand euros.
