School of Arts exhibitionThe exhibition «Loulé International School of Arts 1993-1997 – Retrospective by Nicole Callebaut» will be on display from August 13th to September 30th at the Convento de Santo António, in Loulé.

This exhibition brings together works from the Loulé Chamber estate, but also recent works by teachers from this art school, an initiative that the Loulé municipality promoted in the summers between 1993 and 1997.

The works belonging to the local authority «were selected by an international jury at the end of each session» of these summer courses, which, according to the City of Loulé, combined the artistic residency of renowned plastic artists with training.

Some of these artists, namely Bruce Dorfman (New York), Minerva Durham (New York), Enrico Gonçalves (Portugal), Cécile Massart (Belgium) and Pascaline Wollast (Belgium), will now hand over recent works of their own to enhance this exhibition.

The exhibition's curator is Nicole Callebaut, a Belgian artist who has explored, over a 40-year career, «the relationship between line and surface, between light and color, seeking both a pictorial and intellectual experience».

“In its thematic approach, it uses several techniques, such as handmade paper, acrylic paint, collages and installations. His work does not seek a complete abstraction, nor does he have the ambition to achieve an ideal aesthetic, however he wants to invent a new relationship with the world», describes Câmara de Loulé.

The inauguration of the exhibition takes place on the 13th of August, a Thursday, at 19 pm.
