The blue flags on the beaches of the municipality of Loulé were hoisted this Monday, 29 June. In all, ten beaches received the distinction, nine of them also receiving the golden beach flag “with gold quality” and six received the white flag for accessible beach.

Vilamoura, Quarteira, Almargem, Forte Novo, Loulé Velho (Quarteira parish), Vale do Lobo, Garrão Poente, Garrão Nascente, Ancão and Quinta do Lago (Almancil parish) are the beaches that, as in recent years, receive the Blue Flag, corresponding to the entire territory of Louletano with bathing areas.

Vilamoura Marina, recently distinguished as the Best International Marina, will also carry the Blue Flag.

Of all the beaches that have flown the blue flag, only Almargem beach has also not received the Golden Beach Flag with “Gold Quality”, awarded by QUERCUS, which certifies the excellence of the quality of the bathing water.

The beaches of Vilamoura, Quarteira, Forte Novo, Loulé Velho, Vale do Lobo and Garrão Poente are accessible and therefore received the White Flag.

The ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Loulé, Vítor Aleixo, and the Alderman for the Environment, Pedro Oliveira, as well as representatives of various entities, including APA/ARH Algarve, Captaincy of the Port of Faro, CCDR and Parish Councils of Quarteira and Almancil.

The Blue Flag program aims to educate for the sustainability of marine, coastal and lakeside biodiversity and encourage the adoption of sustainable behaviors that respect Nature.
