Recovo da Ilha da Culatra_Foto Maritime AuthorityThe Association of Residents of Ilha da Culatra (AMIC) made a point of «recognisingly thanking» the requalification work carried out in the so-called Recovo da Ilha area, after the completion of the cleaning and removal of boats carried out by Sociedade Polis Ria Formosa.

In addition to expressing its satisfaction for the work carried out, the association highlighted the role of the Captaincy of the Port of Olhão, thanking «the entire team that accompanied the work and, in particular, Commander Rui Pedro Ferreira, for the collaborative posture, effort and dedication shown to this requalification”.

The Local Command of the Maritime Police of Olhão collaborated in this action at the level «of the coordination, survey and identification of vessels, on-the-spot information on removal processes and on the safety of people and goods on the spot».

«The cleaning action started about 4 months ago, with the survey of existing vessels on site and awareness of skippers/shipowners about the need to remove them. This action aims to renaturalize a protected area of the Ria Formosa that for more than 20 years has been occupied by pleasure boats of various nationalities and where garbage has accumulated, seriously affecting the natural habitat of various species of birds and marine species." described the National Maritime Authority on its website.

“We also expect the same environmental awareness from the many sailors who for several consecutive years have anchored their boats in this protected area”, he concluded.
