The Coro Gregoriano de Lisboa opens on Sunday, May 17, at 17 pm, the Semana Coral de Lagoa with a performance at the Igreja Matriz in Estômbar, interpreting the Liturgy of Santo António.
Directed since 2011 by Armando Possante, and founded in 1989 by Maria Helena Pires de Matos, then professor in charge of the Gregorian Chant chair at the Lisbon Superior School of Music, the Lisbon Gregorian Choir aims to promote Gregorian Chant through its study and execution.
Has developed an intense activity of concerts and presentations in Portugal, Japan, Belgium, Luxembourg, Italy and Morocco.
Having also participated in television and radio programs, with an emphasis on the program Paths of Portuguese Music of RTP, the Gregorian Choir edited five discographic works.
Admission to this concert is free, but limited to 150 seats.
The Semana Coral de Lagoa is a non-competitive vocal and choral training festival, promoted jointly by Ideias do Levante – Lagoa Cultural Association and the Lagoa City Council.
Its purpose is to stimulate and spread the art of choral singing, encourage the technical and artistic improvement of the participating vocal/choral formations and promote cultural exchange.
This year, from the 16th to the 23rd of May, the 17th edition of the Semana Coral de Lagoa will take place, with the participation of four groups: the Coro Gregoriano de Lisboa, the Grupo Coral dos Loureiros (Palmela), the Grupo Coral da Sociedade Filarmónica Silvense (Silves), and the host choir, the Ideias do Levante Choir (Lagoa, Algarve).
On May 17th, a Vocal Technique Workshop will be held, guided by Francisco Brazão. In this edition, the Ideias do Levante Choir will have the privilege of being accompanied on the piano by Cristiana Silva.
