The Algarve Tourism Region (RTA) will promote the inauguration of direct air connections to Faro from Madrid, by Air Nostrum, and from Barcelona, on flights operated by Vueling, with charm actions in Spain and educational visits to the destination.
The first public relations action directed at the trade, tour operators, media, entities and opinion leaders will take place on May 28 at the Embassy of Portugal in Madrid, giving visibility to the beginning of the connection between the Spanish capitals from the 1st of June.
The initiative, which will be attended by the president of the RTA Desidério Silva, the ambassador Francisco Ribeiro de Menezes, the coordinator of Tourism of Portugal, Maria de Lurdes Vale, and representatives of the airline, will consist of a showcooking Algarve cataplana, promoted by the Tertúlia Algarvia restaurant, entertainment and offer of regional sweets and informational materials.
A similar initiative will take place on June 16 at the Hilton Barcelona, a hotel with a central location in the capital of Catalonia, marking the opening of the direct connection to Faro from June 20th.
The start of operation of the air routes also serves as a pretext for two visits to the Algarve by journalists from specialized media in travel and tourism and in bloggers Spanish, also scheduled for June.
According to the president of RTA, «the opening of these routes is great news, especially now that the Spanish market is booming in the Algarve, having recorded in 2014 an increase of around 25 percent in overnight stays and this year can reach a million overnight stays».
The inaugural flights will take place on June 1, in the case of the connection Faro-Madrid, and on June 20, on the call Faro-Barcelona.
A Air Nostrum will operate the Madrid route with aircraft up to 100 passengers, offering around 8500 seats and 102 movements.
In the months of June, July and September, it will fly on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays and from 21st July to 1st September on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Already the call of the Vueling to Barcelona it will have two weekly flights, with departures on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and will last until September 12th.
