The Lagoa City Council launched a «Civil Construction Sector Revitalization Program» which involves attributing four works to the municipality's architects and company with a total value of 600 thousand euros.
Francisco Martins, president of the Chamber of Lagoa, revealed to the Sul Informação that the objective is to «inject capital into the local economy», contributing to «revitalize construction companies based in Lagoa, allowing them to create or maintain their jobs, as well as to value our architects, who will thus have work, but also a showroom outdoors to show his work».
The mayor pointed out that, by direct agreement, four architects from the municipality will be chosen, who will design the work, and four construction companies. contractor may only carry out one of the interventions'.
Francisco Martins underlined that this will be "the first invitation, knowing that, next year, we will have more invitations to make for other works" and then there will be "other architects and other companies to be invited".
But what works is it about? The mayor responds that these are interventions of «recovery and rehabilitation of municipal public spaces» in four localities: Lagoa, Parchal, Calvário and Porches.
Thus, in Lagoa, the area of the playground, traffic school and skate park, next to the EN125, in the new area of the city, will be the target of intervention. It is intended to «integrate all these public facilities in a large, open park, as well as correcting some errors, namely by changing the skateboard park in the area where it is now, very close to residential buildings and therefore often the target of complaints from residents, because of the noise. We are going to move it to a more northerly area, away from the buildings».
In Parchal, the intervention will be in the multi-sport area of Bairro da CHE Lagoense, which is, according to the mayor, «degraded and even today attracts some criminality».
At Calvário, the works will advance in space, next to the road, where the flea market and parties are currently held, “also correcting the roundabout that exists there and which, almost off the road, is a danger”. The intervention involves integrating the entire area into a single urban park, intended for leisure and parties.
Finally, in Porches, the area to intervene is the “waste land” next to the municipal district, where the Caracol Festival takes place, and which President Francisco Martins also wants to assume the characteristics of an “urban park that serves the population”.
“These are the first four works, in which we intend to have quality, but also which have to do with the population that will use these spaces. Hence, we will choose, for the projects, architects who identify themselves and know our territories», added the mayor.
Francisco Martins assumes that this «Civil Construction Sector Revitalization Program» may be «questionable», but guarantees that everything will be done «with total transparency». "This year there will be four architects and four companies in the municipality, next year there will be another four architects and four different companies," he repeated.
«All the bet we have been making is to revitalize the economy of the municipality of Lagoa. This year we bet on wine, with several events, and with that we are promoting many other sectors, such as tourism, and we want to continue to promote the products and businessmen of Lagos», concluded the mayor.
