Wine ShowNational wines will be highlighted at the Espaço Multiusos de Albufeira, in the seventh edition of the Grande Mostra de Vinhos de Portugal, organized by the Confraria Bacchus de Albufeira, which takes place from the 16th to the 18th of May. About eighty producers from various national wine regions will be present at the event, which is expected to attract more than ten thousand visitors.

A 7th Great Wine Show of Portugal, an initiative by the Confraria do Bacchus de Albufeira has free admission. To taste the wines on display, simply purchase (for three euros) the glass depicting the event.

Over the three days of the exhibition, winegrowers, winemakers, professionals in the sector and restoration and connoisseurs – not to mention tourists visiting the region – will have the opportunity to discover the best of what is produced in a segment in notorious evolution.

The 7th Great Wine Show of Portugal includes, in addition to the usual wine tasting, other attractive moments: show cookings of tribute to the Mediterranean diet harmonized with different varieties, workshops, commented tastings, burning bottle opening, prize draw for visitors, musical moments and the long-awaited wine competition, with awarding of gold, silver and bronze medals in the various categories in competition.

Thus, in competition will be red, white, rosé and liqueur wines, whose prizes will be announced at the opening dinner of the event, whetting appetites for the following days.

In total, the options are varied, since around eighty producers from the north to the south of the country will be at the EMA, such as Casa de Sezim or Rebouça Alvarinho (Minho), Valle Pradinhos (Trás-os-Montes), Dona Berta or Quinta Frades (Douro), Quinta da Fata or Lusovini (Dão), Companhia das Quintas or Quinta Folgorosa (Lisbon), Adega de Almeirim or Adega do Cartaxo (Tejo), Adega Cantanhede (Bairrada), Sivipa or Adega de Palmela (Setúbal Peninsula), Herdade da Mingorra or J.Portugal Ramos (Alentejo), among others.

From the Algarve, a dozen of the most renowned producers in the region will be present. The wines from Quinta João Clara, Quinta do Barranco Longo, Quinta da Malaca or Quinta dos Vales are some of the names to remember for those unaware that, in the south of the country, excellent nectars are also produced.

The program also contains workshops from initiation to olive oil tasting, the presentation of the Wine Route and the thematic colloquium conversations with wine.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to win prizes, watch various musical notes provided for in the show's program or learn how to prepare a sangria, among other surprises.

The exhibition of cheeses, sausages and regional sweets complements the celebration of flavors combined with the protagonist of the event: wine.

The event will also have a solidary nature, one of the premises of the organizer Bacchus. For this purpose, through a partnership with Delta Cafés, a stand of this brand will be operated by Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Albufeira, with the profits from sales reverting to the institution.

The 7th Grande Mostra de Vinhos de Portugal is supported by the Municipality of Albufeira, Algarve Hotels and Tourist Enterprises Association, Algarve Tourism, Albufeira Promotion Agency, Hotel School of Faro, Portimão Hotel School, Diamantino Negrão School, Agricultural Credit Bank, Radio Kiss, Zoomarine, Follow Me Tours, Delta Cafés, Be Live Hotels – Palmeiras, Albusado, among other sponsorships.

Founded in 2007, the Brotherhood of the Bacchus of Albufeira born from the commitment of a collective of lovers of gastronomy and excellent national wines. The purpose? Publicize wine and the cultural heritage associated with it.

By regulation, it promotes a monthly dinner on the first Friday of the month, around a wine from a specific wine region.

It currently has 75 members (20 percent women) in the categories of effective confreres, Mestre confreres (connected to the wine sector) and Honor (legal persons).

For eight years it has participated in various initiatives, at the invitation of other Confraternity and other associations. It also seeks to associate itself with solidary causes. Recently, it organized the 1st Solidarity Walk in Paderne, with the collection of goods for people in need, which ended with a convivial meal offered to more than 200 people.

In 2009, and with only 30 members, the Confraria embarks on an ambitious project: the realization of a desired event in the south of the country and carries out the 1st Grande Mostra de Vinhos de Portugal, which, in Albufeira, had the participation of 42 producers from the various Portuguese wine regions.

Six years later, the number of professionals wishing to be present at the fair has almost doubled, with requests to participate in this year's edition exceeding the capacity of the EMA, the space where the fair usually takes place, with 80 confirmed exhibitors.
