Saint Peter gave a little help and, in Faro, the clouds walked away long enough to see much of the solar eclipse that happened today, Friday, this morning. A phenomenon that many were keen to see and that motivated initiatives in different parts of the region.

The Living Science Centers in the region made a point of promoting eclipse observation sessions. And, in the case of Lagos, there was the right to breakfast, with coffee and cakes. In Tavira and Faro, the initiatives of the local CCVs did not include a gastronomic part, but the astronomical part was always present.

The Vila-Adentro restaurant, in Cidade Velha, also took the opportunity to combine the breakfast concept with the observation of the eclipse. Faro.

The day started with clear skies and no rain, conditions that invited people to come outside to observe the eclipse, or, in this case, on a terrace in the Old Town. At Vila-Adentro, the phenomenon was accompanied by a breakfast good gourmet food. The glasses suitable for viewing the eclipse were also provided by the house.

The clouds came to intrude on the plans of those who joined the initiative in Faro, but customers have not given their money as lost.

André Cardoso was born and raised in Brazil and it was there that he watched the last solar eclipse, when he was 8 years old. “I've lived here in Portugal for over ten years and I was lucky to be able to watch a new eclipse here. I'm very happy», he said, stressing that, had he been in the Southern Hemisphere and in the American continent, he would not have had the opportunity to observe the phenomenon.

«This breakfast married well with the eclipse, it was very good. This is a moment that we have few opportunities to enjoy in life and it was worth it», added André Cardoso.

The idea of Vera Borges and Pedro Alves, who have been exploring this restaurant for a few months, generated enthusiasm and attracted a few dozen people, who divided themselves between the restaurant's terrace and terrace. In the end, Vera Borges confessed to having been “surprised” by the interest that the idea generated.

“We weren't expecting it to have such an impact, but I'm glad it did. It surprised us positively», he said. A success that brings responsibility. "Now the bar is high, so we have to maintain it," he added.

Even because the old building where the restaurant is located carries within (and under) a great weight of the history of Faro. Stairs inside Vila-Adentro give access to a small section of a tunnel system that would have been built by the Muslims, before the city was conquered by the Portuguese Christian kings.

Also in Faro, but in front of the Municipal Market, organized by the Centro Ciência Viva do Algarve, dozens of people gathered, many simple passersby or people going shopping, who took the opportunity to peek at the eclipse.

At the Centro Ciência Viva de Lagos, the observation of the eclipse was attended by 35 adults and 38 children. To accompany it, there were cakes and coffee.
