The centenary association Gym Club de Faro will relaunch its activity this Friday, in a ceremony open to the entire population, which starts at 18:30.
Musical and poetry “shots” will animate this reopening of the headquarters of the collective, located on the corner of Ruas de Santo António and Ivens, in the heart of downtown Faro, which has undergone extensive refurbishment.
This Thursday, the finishing touches were still being applied, but it doesn't take much to realize the potential of the association's ample space and, above all, its impressive collection. Founded in 1898 by the Faro bourgeoisie at the time, this association accumulated a remarkable income over more than a century, much of which is exemplary preserved, despite the vicissitudes of recent years, which led the Gym Club Farense to close its activity.
The community now returns with new blood, the result of a renewal of the management team. A group of 20 people linked to the associative sector accepted the challenge of the previous direction, who was in charge of the destinations of the Ginásio Club de Faro for decades, but that «for various reasons, I did not have the availability to dynamize it», says Pedro Bartilotti, the president of the new direction, elected last November.
This new team presents, this evening, the ideas they have to keep the association alive, as well as the result of an intense work to restore the headquarters, located in the Novo Banco building.
