quelf gamesThis year, the Municipality of Loulé joins the Quelfes Games and will integrate this sporting and cultural event, which takes place annually, in the “Loulé European City of Sport 2015” program.

The Quelfes Games are a movement dedicated to promoting the humanist dimension of Olympism, models of inclusive and motivating sport, the Mediterranean diet, environmental protection and peace, through a sporting and cultural encounter.

This movement is supervised by the International Quelfes Games Committee, which develops its work in Portugal through the Associação Jogos de Quelfes Portugal, collaborating with the Olympic Academy and the Olympic Committee of Portugal, among others, in various initiatives.

The Organizing Committee, which also includes the municipalities of Faro, Olhão, S. Brás de Alportel and Tavira, the Olympic Academy and the Paralympic Committee of Portugal, School Sports, DREALG, the IPDJ, the associations of Handball, Athletics, Basketball, Fencing and Swimming in the Algarve or parish councils from the municipality of Olhão, arises during the growth of the event itself, which intends to assert itself as the main national reference in the promotion of Olympism, in particular its humanist dimension and values, aimed at the 1st Cycle of Basic Education.

Celebrated for the first time in 2010, with roots in athletic competitions for children, held in Quelfes since time immemorial, this festival is an important meeting point for different local school communities, simultaneously serving as a stimulus for Olympic learning and the exchange of good things. educational practices.

In this sense, it fits into the central objectives of the “Loulé European City of Sport 2015”.
