Moroccan CarpetsA delegation of businessmen and tourism leaders from Morocco will officially visit the Algarve, between the 22nd and 25th of January, with a vast work schedule.

As part of the visit, several bilateral meetings will take place, including a Conference at the University of Algarve on January 23, in the morning, under the theme “Morocco – A Nearby and Complementary Tourist Destination”, and a meeting between Moroccan and Algarve Tour Operators on the same day, in the afternoon, at the Algarve Hotel and Tourism School.

The signing of a Protocol between the University of Algarve and the Higher International Tourism Institute of Tangier and the decoration of the Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Morocco in the Algarve, architect José Alberto Alegria, are among some of the events planned.

The Moroccan delegation includes the Ambassador of that country in Portugal, the Mayor of Tangier, the President of the National Tourism Institute and the Presidents of the Regional Tourism Councils of the regions of Tangier/Tétouan, DoukkalaAbda and Marrakesh/Tensift/El Haouz , as well as several businessmen linked to the tourist activity in that North African country.

On January 24, the Moroccan delegation will visit some tourist developments in the region and will have lunch in Albufeira, at the invitation of the Mayor.

The visit follows a stay in Morocco by a Algarve hotel group last May, at the invitation of the Mayor of Tangier, Regional Tourism Council and Honorary Consulate of that country, and intends to strengthen business and tourist relations between Morocco and the Algarve, including the re-establishment of maritime connections between the Algarve region and that country.

On the other hand, following the existing twinning between the cities of Faro and in Tangier, official working meetings will take place between those responsible for the two cities, in addition to a lunch of Moroccan cuisine to be held at the Hotel School, with the unveiling of a plaque commemorating the 30 years of twinning.

The entire journey dedicated to the Kingdom of Morocco culminates in a musical evening at the Municipal Museum of Faro, on the 23rd, from 21 pm, with free entry. Moroccan musicians and the Portuguese group Al-Mouraria will be present.

AHETA, through some of its members, provides accommodation and travel arrangements for the Moroccan delegation (Tivoli Marinotel, Vila Galé Ampalius and Visa Car), also collaborating in the organization of the meeting between the Tour Operators of the two countries, as well as in the participation and dissemination of the event to its members.
