More than 30 people visited, from the 28th to the 30th of November, the Sweet Potato Festival of Aljezur. Over the three days, nearly 30 tons of that tuber were sold and consumed.
In such a way that the Chamber of Aljezur, which promotes the event aimed at promoting the «better sweet potato of the world, of the variety Lyra, a product with Protected Geographical Indication, with unique and genuine characteristics», classified the Festival as a «surprising success».
The municipality stresses that the visitors came "from all regions of the country and that they also had the opportunity to animate and stimulate the various local economic agents, from hotels to restaurants".
A special visitor was the minister of Agriculture Assunção Cristas, who attended the festival on Saturday, where challenged young farmers to bet on sweet potato production.
The City Council of Aljezur also points out, in a press release, that this Festival came to “reinforce local agricultural associations, proving that it is no use cultivating any variety other than Lyra. Only this one will be able to bear the seal of quality and prestige of the IGP conferred by the Association of Sweet Potato Producers of Aljezur».
