olive valleyThe recovery and environmental enhancement works at the mouth of the Vale do Olival stream, in Armação de Pêra, have already started on 29 October, announced today the Municipality of Silves, responsible for the works.

The work is the result of a community application to the PO Algarve 21 program – Axis 2 – Actions for the Enhancement of the Coast.

The total value of the work is 100 euros, 70% of which will be in non-repayable terms, and the Silves and Lagoa Councils will support 15% of the total value, respectively.

This joint candidacy of the two municipalities, which has already been pointed out as a good example of cooperation between neighboring municipalities, results from the fact that that stream is located in the border between the two councils, with common problems on both sides.

The application also included the Technical Execution Project for the Nascente Urban Park of Armação de Pêra, on the right bank of the Ribeira de Alcantarilha, near the former Armacenenses camp, in other words, the former “Estádio das Gaivotas”, as it was known .

The project that is now in progress includes the construction of a pedestrian path, a raised wooden walkway, the planting of riverine species and the construction of two weirs.

These constructions will make it possible to minimize the impact of erosion at the mouth of the stream, as well as the environmental impact resulting from the discharge of contaminated rainwater and accidental discharges that occur from the Sewage Pumping Station.

The work was awarded to the company Manuel António & Jorge Almeida – Construções SA and is expected to be completed within five months.
