Silva e Sousa and Kenneth OflynnA delegation from Albufeira, led by the president of the municipality of Albufeires, Carlos Silva e Sousa, visited Cork and Dublin, Ireland, to promote this Algarve municipality as a tourist destination.

The visit included a set of contacts and promotion actions that aimed to reinforce the visibility of the destination in one of the most relevant markets for Albufeira, as it is the 5th source market for tourists to the Algarve, with the focus being given to the off-season period high.

In addition to the mayor and other members of the Council of Albufeira, the Algarvian delegation included 20 companies associated with APAL – Association for the Promotion of Albufeira, «which showed themselves to the main operators in the country, in an initiative promoted together with the ATP – Associação de Turismo de Portimão, and in which companies based in Tavira and Quarteira/Loulé also joined».

«There were 5 days of institutional and commercial contacts, with the aim of establishing Albufeira as a destination of choice not only during the bathing season, but also at all times of the year. Golf, Climate, Culture, Gastronomy and Nature were some of the areas that helped Albufeira to “pull the gap” as one of the destinations of excellence in a consolidated market, where it is essential to strengthen bridges of contact at a commercial, but also institutional level» , described Albufeira Town Council, in a press release.

Among others, Carlos Silva e Sousa met with their counterparts Kenneth O'Flynn, from Cork, and Christy Burke, from Dublin. From the meeting in Cork, an agreement was reached to embark on a common agenda in areas such as tourism, employment, culture, sport and youth.

In Dublin, in addition to institutional meetings, participation in the Over 50's Show Fair was another strong point of this agenda. «With more than 300 exhibitors, the event is aimed at active senior tourism and represents a strong commitment as a complement in terms of tourist offer, namely in the reinforcement of the offer outside the bathing season», according to the City Council of Albufeira.

«The Algarve has all the conditions to attract more and better tourism, and for this it is essential that we reinforce Albufeira's position in consolidated markets, where we feel they know us and where our presence generates business», considered Carlos Silva e Sousa on the sidelines of visit.

The mayor highlighted the presence of «more than two dozen companies in Albufeira that sought to strengthen their image here and conquer new business opportunities». "There is a natural affinity with this market, where we have a very relevant reputation and, in this sense, we have opened some doors that seem important to me for the future. It is up to us to keep these doors open and strengthen this line of cooperation", he concluded .
