There are barnacles, of course, some as big as the thumbs of a very large hand. But there are also grilled limpets, mussels, razor clams, fried moray eel, burgaus, mussel porridge, fried cuttlefish, shrimp… Here, in a big way, is the third edition of the Perceve Festival, which takes place today and tomorrow, the 14th, Pavilhão da EB 2,3 School of S. Vicente, in Vila do Bispo.

The barnacles are the kings of the party and have good reason for that. Some, more expensive, are huge. «They were caught from Pedra da Galé, in Carrapateira», explains one of the shellfish collectors. “It's not every day that you get to go there, but on Tuesday the sea was almost still” and the catch was possible. If it were this weekend, things would be very different, because the sea has been much more agitated.

The Festival also has a lot of musical entertainment. Today, the groups Too Hot 2Handle and Al-Buhera take the stage and on the 14th it will be the turn of the group The Jazztrix 4 Tet and Zé do Pipo.

Also this Sunday, between 18 pm and 00 pm, there will be an action to promote mackerel, which will include tastings and cooking demonstrations. This is an event of the Cavala Algarvia project of the CCMAR of the University of Algarve, coordinated by the School of Hotel and Tourism of the Algarve.

The III Perceve Festival of Vila do Bispo is open today until 2:00 am. On Sunday, the 14th, it is open from 14:00 pm to 2:00 am. Admission costs 2 euros, but entitles you to a drink. The barnacles, very fresh, are at 30 euros a kilo…but there are other cheaper snacks there. And also more expensive: the barnacles from the special lot, the ones caught in Pedra da Galé, enormous, cost 60 euros a kilo. But they are all really good to eat and cry for more, with an unbelievable taste of the sea.
