Lagos livens up September with heritage, music, dance and theater

ROYAL FLAMENKOThe month of September starts in Lagos with a lot of music, several concerts by the Academy of Music of Lagos, as well as the usual Flamenco Festival, which brings shows of enormous visual beauty and unique sounds. “Heritage, always a discovery” is the theme of the Heritage Days to which, once again, the City Council is associated. Revista à Portuguesa and Stand Up Comedy are also present in this month's programming.

Early this month (days 4 to 6), the II INsPIREd Project Seminar is scheduled to take place, whose main objective is to inform and involve the population «in the prevention of seismic and tsunami risks, in order to increase its resilience and minimize any damage”.

As part of the program, on the 6th, from 9:30 am, a Tribute to Professor Luis Mendes Victor is planned, at the Salão Nobre of the Antigos Paços do Concelho, at Praça Gil Eanes. There will also be a ceremony to assign his name to a street in the city of Lagos.

On the stage of the Duval Pestana Auditorium, at the Centro Cultural de Lagos, the highlights will be the Flamenco Festival, which takes place between the 11th and the 13th (always at 21 pm), and this year celebrates its 30th edition in Lagos, with shows of enormous visual and sound beauty (Day 13 – Real Flamenko, Day 11 – Arte Flamenco, «Day 12 – Desplante Flamenco).

Another highlight, on the 19th, at 21 pm, is the show “A Fábrica” (Stand Up Comedy), in charge of Improváveis ​​(the trio of actors Pedro Borges, Telmo Ramalho and Marta Borges).

At the end of the month, on the 26th, at the same time, the Revista à Portuguesa “Revista à Cunha”, staged by the actors Carlos Cunha and Marina Mota, takes on the stage of the Cultural Center, which promises comedy and lots of music. With texts by Francisco Nicholson, Mário Rainho and Flávio Gil, plastic direction by Helena Reis, musical direction by Carlos Dionísio and dance ensemble by Marco de Camillis.

THE FACTORYAlso the Lagos Music Academy, which presents on this equipment two concerts (5th and 6th, 21:30 pm), starts the month with a Youth Internship and a Masterclass in Opera Interpretation, the latter with the participation of João Paulo Santos, pianist, conductor, director of Musical Studies, of Scene and coordinator of the Opera Studio of the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos.

With regard to Sports, in September there are many activities going on, namely the “Rota do Infante” race (on the 05th, at 20:00, with registration open on site – next to Intermarché).

Another highlight is the 15th, with the start of classes included in the municipality's “Saúde em Movimento” project, and the 21st (9:00 am to 13:00 pm), when the National Masters Championship (Athletics) will take place at the Carlos Cabral Athletics Track (Municipal Stadium).

On the 21st and 28th, always at 21 pm, the Memory Walk, at Parque do Anel Verde, and the World Heart Day Walk, departing from Espaço Jovem, are planned, respectively.

For the 5th, the CAPeonato 2014 – Portuguese Water Dog Practical Trials Championship is scheduled, on the following day, from 16 pm, at Cais da Solaria.

The well-known «Cinema à Quartas» continues this month, returning to be presented at the Municipal Library of Lagos, from 21 pm.

poster_cinema_setembro_2014.inddUnder the cycle “Our Things”, the general public is invited to watch four great films: “That darling month of August”, by Miguel Gomes (Day 03); “A Gaiola Dourada”, by Ruben Alves (10th); “É o Amor”, by João Canijo (17th) and “Hope is where you least expect it”, by Joaquim Leitão (24th). Admission is free.

As for exhibitions, there are several that can be visited. At the Ponta da Bandeira Fortress, “Lagos and the Discoveries – The Costume in the Portuguese Society of Quinhentos” continues to be open to the public.

At the Centro Cultural de Lagos, until October 11, Margarida Valente's exhibitions “i lasticidades. i others” (design objects) and the collective “Interioridades Singulares” (with the participation of artists Brigitte von Humbolt, Carla Piazza, Mariola Landowska, Tarciso Viriato and Vando Figueiredo).

In the Old Town Hall, you can get to know “O Mundo das Dolls”, with dolls of various nationalities – some with limited editions and unusual features.

No Lagos Living Science Center visit the photographic exhibition “Nos Limites da Ciência”, an exhibition that highlights the importance of the polar regions for the planet, through images collected by Portuguese scientists.

Even at the end of the month (the 26th, 27th and 28th) the European Heritage Days are scheduled to take place, for which the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage, the entity responsible for coordinating the event at national level, proposed the theme “Heritage , always a discovery”.

Once again, the Municipality of Lagos is associated with this initiative with a diversified program of activities that the municipality will be making aware of very soon.
