Sardine Festival 3 - D_R_This year's edition of the Sardine Festival «was a success across the board», attracting more than 45 thousand people to the riverside area of Portimão, between 13 and 17 August, announced today the City Council.

The municipality also emphasizes that, «compared to the same period last year, the six restaurants participating in the event (À Ravessa, Meco, Ú Venâncio, Casa Balau, Forte and Feio, Zizá and Retiro do Peixe Assado) registered an increase in demand, with an emphasis on the “Prato Festival”, consisting of a slice of bread, four sardines, boiled potatoes and Algarvian salad».

Sardines on bread were also in great demand, with the sale of about half a ton of sardines in the two existing spaces, under the responsibility of GEJUPCE – Gil Eanes Juventude Portimonense Clube and Boa Esperança Atlético Clube.

Sardine Festival 2 - D_R_Another important aspect was related to «the quality of the sardines sold during the event, a fact unanimously recognized by the many consumers who sought the most famous gastronomic delicacy in Portimão».

The spaces for the sale of drinks/coffees – which were operated by the Youth Association “O Infante”, Taekwondo Club of Portimão, Recreative and Sports Club of Chão das Donas and Portimão's Nucleus of the Portuguese Red Cross – “also registered a good movement ».

The organization of the Sardine Festival did not charge any costs to the communities involved, «as a way of supporting the local associations, which were at the origin and always participated actively» in the event.

On a musical level, thousands of people applauded every night the artists and bands who passed by the main stage, next to the old auction, namely José Cid, Os Azeitonas, Quim Roscas & Zeca Estacionâncio and Banda Pau d'Arara, without forgetting the prominence granted to house silver, as were the cases of the bands Sabrosas Funk and La Plante Mutante and the singer Rosa Martins.

Sardine Festival 1 - D_R_In parallel, folklore groups and accordion players performed every day along the riverside of Portimão, while in the bandstand next to the Casa Inglesa the musical entertainment, in charge of the Parish Council of Portimão, featured fado singer Teresa Viola, the popular music of the SOS, the tribute to the Beatles by the Come Together group and the performances of Projecto 70 and Simple Song Band.

Complementing the gastronomic offer and the musical poster, in the entire axis of the riverside there were several stands for companies related to restaurants, beverages and sweets, not missing a small crafts show, with some artisans working live, and an antiques show , with crockery, silverware, watches, silverware, jewelry, stamps and other items.

All this entertainment was supported by the Parish Council of Portimão, the Port Authority of Portimão, the Administration of the Port of Sines and Algarve, the Algarve Tourism and the Portuguese Tourism Board, which thus associated themselves with the 2014 Sardine Festival, an organization of the Portimão/Portimão Urbis City Council, which was officially sponsored by Continente and sponsored by Delta Cafés and Nosolagua.
