Children painting glass in Castro MarimUrban art was placed at the service of the environment in Castro Marim. Eight old glass panes were recovered, painted and returned to the street in Altura, as part of the environmental education project «Recycling the Look to Protect the Sea», developed by the Castro Marim City Council in collaboration with the Agrupamento de Escolas do county.

The project was started by students from the 2nd cycle of Castro-Marinense schools and concluded in the Active Vacations program in the municipality, after the school year ended.

«Underlying this initiative was the message of reducing the production of waste and reusing materials, namely by reusing old glass, of the igloo type. With an urban art aspect, it is expected that this action will capture more attention and fulfill its main objective of the project, which is to alert and sensitize the population to the need to protect the oceans», illustrated the Chamber of Castro Marim.

The choice of the location of Altura to put these “experienced” glassware into service, with a new face, was due to the fact that it is a place “with the greatest influx of tourists” in the county, during the summer.
