PLANET OCEAN: Pez Zorro entangled in a fishing net in MexicoThe exhibition “Planet Ocean”, by photographers Yann Arthus-Bertrand and Brian Skerry, opens on August 1st at 18 pm, at the Municipal Museum of Portimão.

This is an organization of Associação Cultural Música XXI, in partnership with Omega and the Oceanário de Lisboa, the Municipality of Portimão, the Museum of Portimão and the Associação Musubmar/Ocean Revival.

The inauguration of the Good Planet Foundation exhibition will be used to present the exhibition “An Adventure in the Artificial Recife”, which results from the work developed by the young participants of the summer vacation at the Museum of Portimão.

The photographic exhibition “Planet Ocean” presents the oceans through aerial images by Yann Arthus-Bertrand and underwater images by Brian Skerry.

There are 35 large photographs (163,5x110cm), with inimitable perspectives and styles, which engage the audience in an intense color dialogue. The descriptions in the photographs make visitors aware of the socio-economic threats facing the oceans today.

Yann Arthus-Bertrand, French photographer, journalist, reporter and environmentalist, is passionate about the animal world and the environment.

Planet Ocean ExhibitionHe was the creator of the project about the state of the planet The Earth from Above, a book that became a huge success, with more than three million copies sold and an open-air exhibition that has been visited, to date, by more than 200 million people.

Documentary author From Above, Yann Arthus-Bertrand directed the film «Home», seen by nearly 600 million people in over 100 countries.

With Michael Pitiot, in 2012, he also made the film planet ocean, which gives the name to this exhibition.

In addition to being named “Painter for the French Navy”, Yann Arthus-Bertrand is also a Goodwill Ambassador to the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and founder of the GoodPlanet Foundation.

Brian Skerry is an American photographer, famous for his underwater images, having spent over ten thousand hours shooting underwater.

A National Geographic contributor since 1998, Brian Skerry has also collaborated or seen his images published in the world's most prestigious magazines and newspapers, such as Sports Illustrated, US News & World Report, BBC Wildlife, GEO, Smithsonian, Esquire, Audubon and Men's Journal.

Brian Skerry is the author of five books, including Ocean Soul, and one of the founders of International League of Conservation Photographers (ILCP), being also a resident explorer at the Boston-New England Aquarium.

The exhibition “Planet Ocean”, with free entry, will be on display at the Museum until the 24th of August, and is intended to take its visitors, through unique images, on an exceptional journey across the oceans, and thus reinforce the importance of these in the life of the entire planet.

During this period, the Portimão Museum has daylight savings time and is open to the public on Tuesdays, from 19:30 pm to 23:00 pm, and from Wednesday to Sunday from 15:00 pm to 23:00 pm, closing on Mondays.
